The Special Operations Battalion, Mubi, has confirmed the arrest of 11 Boko Haram suspects in Michika Local Government of Adamawa State.

The commanding officer of the battalion, Lt. Colonel Beyedi Martins, said the arrest was carried out in conjunction with the Civilian JTF operatives from Borno and Adamawa states who assisted the special operations battalion in identifying the suspects.

He said six of the suspected insurgents had been taken to Maiduguri while five were brought down to Mubi.

Beyedi also confirmed that four out of the five suspects brought to Mubi died in the hands of the Civilian JTF when they attempted to escape.

“Two of the arrested insurgents died on Saturday and the remaining two died on Sunday following their clash with the Civilian JTF when the suspects attempted to escape but the last suspect is still alive and under interroragation”, he said.

An eyewitness, who sought anonymity,  told LEADERSHIP correspondent in a telephone chat that the Civilian JTF stormed the area in company of the JTF men to arrest suspected insurgents who came to Michika following the crackdown launched by the JTF in Bama town of Borno State.

“About 20 suspects were arrested by the Civilian JTF. They were subjected to screening to ascertain whether they were real Boko Haram members or not.

“The civilian JTF resorted to asking the suspects to swear by the glorious Qur’an and therein freed them if they were reasonably convinced of the suspects’ innocence,” he said.

Another eyewitness account says the Civilian JTF cut off the ears of one of the suspects and asked him to eat it before whisking him away.

Last Wednesday, unknown gunmen stormed Gombi Local Government of Adamawa State and killed three policemen, the first of its kind since the imposition of emergency rule in the state, fuelling anxiety across the state.

Gombi local government shares borders with Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, the flash point of insurgency.
