Adamawa government employs 13000 teachers

The Adamawa Government said on Tuesday it had employed more than 13000 teachers to boost secondary school education in the state.

The state Commissioner for Education, Mr Gabriel Hamman-Adama, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola that the measure was to address the problem of inadequate teachers and to enhance the quality of education at the schools.

Hamman-Adama said the teachers were employed in five batches within the past three years.

"We have batches A, B  and C, D1 and D2, " he said.

On the issue of non-payment of some of the teachers salaries for months, the commissioner blamed the delay on noncompliance with due process.

He said the delay affected those employed under batches D1 and D2, now being owed salary arrears of between six and nine months.

"The affected teachers were employed and posted to schools without following the necessary due process of their data being captured in computer due to some unforeseen circumstances.

"As I speak to you now, the data capturing group based in Lagos has been invited; all things being equal, we hope to pay them, particularly those in batch D1, their salary and arrears by the end of September.
