Delta Kingpin finally nabbed in Port Harcourt
« on: September 27, 2013, 10:15:58 AM »
Notorious Delta kidnap kingpin, Kelvin Ibruvwe, has finally been nabbed.

He was smoked out from his hideout in Port Harcourt by a special security squad dispatched from Abuja a few days ago.

Kelvin, with his well armed marauders, said to be numbering about 300, A few days ago, gave the Federal Government a 60-day ultimatum to address every form of marginalisation meted out on the Urhobo nation.

The kingpin and his cohorts defied the fact that he was on the wanted list of all the security agents in Delta State by coming out in broad daylight to issue a warning to the federal might.

Kokori, Kelvin's fortress, as gathered, has been taken over by soldiers, who are now keeping surveillance of the entire community to forestall any breach of the peace.

His people were said to be his strength as they believe in his struggle to emancipate his people from meaginalisation, just as some politicians for Urhobo were also said to be giving him some backing for their selfish political gain.

Kelvin was allegedly picked up in a hotel in PortHarcourt by men of State Security Service (SSS) while trying to escape from heavy security surveillance mounted against him.

However, there was heavy presence of armed security forces in the home town of Kelvin in Kokori yesterday. A source told Daily Champion that the Joint Task Force (JTF) has been in the town since the wake of the recent ultimatum given to the federal government by the suspect kidnapper and his cohorts.

The Kokori born kidnap kingpin, only last week resurfaced after almost a year he was declared wanted by the Delta State Police Command over activities relating to alleged kidnapping and sundry crime.

Another source who does not want to be quoted said Kelvin was arrested along five of his boys in one of his hideouts the hotel about 3.00 pm.

Following the arrest of notorious kidnap kingpin, Kelvin Prosper Oniara, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has urged the people of Kokori to avoid moving around the community from 6.00pm just as the juju priest, who provided charms for the alleged criminals, has been arrested.

Addressing a press conference shortly after a brief security meeting in Warri, yesterday, Governor Uduaghan enjoined the people to be cautious of their movement as security operatives were working to ensure that all members of the gang were arrested.

According to him,"security operatives are in Kokori to fish out the criminals. We are advising that people should be careful in moving around and within Kokori itself. Nobody should be out once it is 6.00pm," the governor said.

He disclosed that Kelvin was involved in high profile kidnapping and armed robbery cases across Nigeria, noting that he had evaded arrest for months before he was arrested two days ago in Port-Harcourt, assuring that all members of his gang would be arrested.

Dr Uduaghan also debunked claims that there was a shoot-out between security operatives and members of Kelvin gang at Kokori, stating that the security men had been civil enough in handling the affairs while carrying out their actions, based on intelligence reports.

"A lot of arrests have been made, there were no shoot-out between security men and the criminals. They don't have the capacity to have a shoot-out with soldiers," the governor said.

He added: "On their own, many of them have moved out of the community. That is why the community is quiet. The community is more of a ghost town but we must find the guns and disarm the criminals."

The governor said the juju priest, Michael Omonigho, who makes charms for the alleged criminals, had been arrested, stating that one person has been confirmed dead while many arrests had been made.
