Graduating corps members
Batch ‘C’ 2012 members of the National Youth Service Corps on Thursday trooped to various social networking sites to celebrate the completion of the compulsory one-year national scheme.

Many of them flaunted their NYSC discharge certificates in the pictures they updated on Facebook, Twitter, blogs, online forum and on the BlackBerry Messenger service.

With the hashtags #nysc, #pop and #BatchCPOP, the graduating corps members from different states of the federation, alongside with their friends and associates, shared congratulatory messages on social media, especially on Twitter and Facebook.

However, though many of them basked in the euphoria of the successful completion of the NYSC, a handful of them took time out to reflect on the unemployment situation in the country.

Our correspondent who monitored the conversations online observed that a cloud of mixed feelings trailed the completion of the scheme.

Some of them expressed dim hope of employment opportunities, even as their colleagues shared the excitement that goes with passing out of the NYSC.

A particular Twitter user, with the name Righteous, tweeting via @sijo04, lamented that he was passing out of the scheme with the mixed feelings that he was officially becoming an unemployed graduate.

He tweeted, “That clarion call was not easy. But we obeyed it anyway. My greatest achievement was making my students to love mathematics. It was never an easy feat, but I did it. I’ll miss everyone I met while serving, especially the students I taught mathematics for one solid year!

“However, I’m passing out today with mixed feelings. I will become, officially, an unemployed graduate today. Oh, Allah, give us a better job as we step into the labour market.”
