Man arrested for raping 13-year-old to death in Ekiti State
« on: November 02, 2013, 10:36:39 AM »
A 34-year-old man, identified simply as Sunday, is now cooling his feet in one of the cells of Ekiti State police command headquarters in Ado Ekiti, after he was arrested for alleged causing the death of a 13-year-old girl he was said to have defiled.

Police told newsmen in Ado Ekiti on Friday that Sunday allegedly committed the offence in Eyio-Ekiti community in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state on Monday, October 28.

A source in Eyio community told newsmen that Sunday and the parents of the late girl were labourers in the same farm.

The source added that a search party was raised for the girl and it searched for three days before her decomposing body was found  in a  cocoa plantation, adding that the suspect was in charge of the cocoa plantation while the victim’s parents were in charge of palm tree plantation.

He alleged that Sunday and the victim went to the farm on the fateful day and further alleged that he tricked the girl to a far corner of the cocoa plantation and forcefully had  carnal knowledge of her.

The source, who said the girl must have died due to excessive bleeding, also revealed  that  Sunday must have  covered the victim’s mouth with a wrapper, thereby suffocating her to death.

The source said, “When the parents of the girl could not find their child till 8.00 p.m. on Monday, the second day, the Eyio-in-Council  held a meeting and insisted that the girl must be found at all cost, so members of the O’odua Peoples Congress mobilised  into the bush  and combed everywhere.

“But when they could not find her,  they later  contacted the police. The police now joined the search party. When they got to a portion in the farm, the police perceived an odour   and they traced the spot and found her body with blood from her private part.”

He said Sunday was immediately arrested  by the OPC being the only person in the farm that day and, upon interrogation, he was said to have confessed  to committing the crime before being handed over to the police.

According to the Public Relations Officer of Ekiti command, Mr. Victor Babayemi, the 34-year old suspect, who is a native of Cross River State, had tricked the girl,  whose parents were said to be of Urhobo extraction  in Delta State, and allegedly raped her to death.

Babayemi announced that the body of the deceased rape victim had been deposited at the mortuary of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH).

He said the suspect was being detained at the Criminal Investigations Department  in the command headquarters. http://tribune.com.ng/news2013/index.php/en/news/item/25359-man-arrested-for-raping-13-year-old-to-death.html

A suspect identified as Sunday, has raped a 13-year-old girl to death in a cocoa plantation in Eyio Ekiti in the Irepodun/Ifelodun Council area of Ekiti State. Sunday, 34, was a co-labourer with parents

of the girl in the plantation, was said to have tricked the unsuspecting victim to the place where he forcibly had canal knowledge of her on Monday.

Speculating on the cause of the victim’s death, sources in the community said the nylon which the suspect stuffed into the girl’s mouth to prevent her from crying while the action lasted could have suffocated her to death.

It took the community and the police three days before the decomposing body of the girl could be located at the scene.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, Victor Babayemi, said that “the suspect is being detained at the Criminal Investigations Department in Ado Ekiti”.

The body of the girl has since been deposited at the morgue of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital.

A source narrated that: “When the parents of the girl could not find their child till 8pm on Monday, they raised the alarm. The following day, the Eyio-in-Council held a meeting and insisted that the girl must be found at all cost.

“So members of the O’odua Peoples’ Congress mobilised into the bush and combed everywhere. When they could not find her, they contacted the Police. The Police subsequently joined the search party.

“When they got to a portion in the farm, the police perceived an odour and they traced the spot and found her lifeless body with thick blood oozing from her private part. Sunday was immediately arrested by the OPC, being the only person on the farm that day,” he said.

Source said the suspect had confessed to the crime before he was handed over to the Police.
