A herbalist has been arrested and charged before an Ojokoro Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly defrauding a woman seeking husband of N2m and defiling her at his shrine.
A 31-year old businesswoman, Temidayo Akinwale, who is now pregnant, suffered the fate when she contacted the herbalist, identified as Ifatade Elegbeleye, to deliver her from strange spirits that prevented her from getting a husband.

The incident happened at Elegbeyele’s shrine located at Ayobo Road in Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area. The accused was arraigned on a six-count charge of fraud, stealing and obtaining s*x under false pretences.
According to the police, the suspect lured his victim to a shrine and told her that he needed to perform some rituals to deliver her from spiritual husband that prevented her from getting a husband.
Mrs. Mary Akinwale, the 65-year-old mother of the victim testified before the court, narrated how Elegbeleye lured her daughter to his shrine, defiled and impregnated her.
The upset mother told the court that Elegbeleye prophesied to her daughter that she was possessed with spiritual husband that would prevent her from getting married and asked her to pay some amount of money for spiritual cleansing. She said that her daughter, who was frightened by the prophesy, paid the money and had to go to a river at Ipaja area in the midnight, where she was bathed with spiritual soap. After the bath, she still could not get a husband, so the victim contacted the herbalist again. The accused invited Temidayo Akinwale again to his shrine, defiled and impregnated her.

In his response, Elegeleye told the court that he actually delivered her of a spiritual husband, adding that he did not collect the money she accused him of collecting.
He said he has been doing spiritual deliverance for years and have liberated many people. When asked to comment on the allegations of r*pe and pregnancy, he declined to talk.

Mrs. O.A. Layinka, the presiding Magistrate, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. The accused was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending the fulfilment of the bail condition.
The trial will resume on December 21, 2013.
