Mr. Possu Awarawuru, one of the seven white cap chiefs of the Akran of Badagry Kingdom, Wheno Aholu Menu Toyi 1, has blamed Christianity and Islam for the problems presently experienced in the African society.

He said this on Saturday at this year’s anniversary celebration of the ancient kingdom tagged ‘Reconnecting with the Root’.

He said the traditional society was guided by morals, values, and decrees laid down by divinities and religiously observed before the advent of Christianity and Islam.

“Before the coming of Christianity and Islam, our fore-fathers worship in their traditions and the society was peaceful and crime-free.”

“If you get to the prisons, Christians and Moslems are always there but you can hardly see an idol worshipper being imprisoned,” he said.

He claimed the introduction of both foreign religions brought about the inordinate pursuit of wealth presently evident in the society.

The chief of Badagry Kingdom also cautioned against calling them idol worshippers saying Traditionalists is a more appropriate description of their religion.

He advocated the return to the worship of traditional divinities like Ogun (God of Iron), Olokun (God of the River), and Sango (God of Thunder), and advised the people to abide with the norms and injunctions guiding the worship of these deities.
