Canadian smartphone maker BlackBerry announced on Friday it had filed a suit against Typo Keyboards, a California startup founded by TV star Ryan Seacrest, charging the company’s new iPhone case with an integrated keyboard copied BlackBerry’s design.

“This is a blatant infringement against BlackBerry’s iconic keyboard, and we will vigorously protect our intellectual property against any company that attempts to copy our unique design,” Steve Zipperstein, BlackBerry’s general counsel said in a press release.

Typo’s company website was taking preorders Friday for an iPhone case with a physical keyboard attached, set to ship this month. The Los Angeles-based startup was founded by American Idol host Seacrest and entrepreneur Laurence Hallier, according to its website.

BlackBerry is asking a federal district court in San Francisco for an order that would take Typo’s keyboard case off the market, according to Bloomberg News. Blackberry also demands an award of Typo’s profits from the iPhone case and triple damages.
