KADUNA State Governor, Mr. Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, yesterday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with German company, Helios Energy, on generation of 30 megawatts of solar power for the state.

The signing, carried out under the Nigerian-German Energy Partnership, will see Helios spend about €50m to construct the facility, under a Build, Operate and

Transfer (BOT) scheme that will last 25 years.

Besides, under the terms of agreement, Kaduna State will provide about 60 hectares of land needed for the facility, while the German company will train Kaduna indigenes in Germany to operate the facility upon completion.

In a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Mr. Reuben Buhari, Governor Yakowa, who supervised the signing in Abuja, said the expected addition of 30 megawatts in the state will boost socio-economic activities, and strengthen his administration’s tripartite focus on Security, Unity and Development.
