The Federal Road Safety Corps, South  West Zone, says it has deployed 120 personnel with 10 patrol vehicles for its ‘Operation Crash the Crashes’ on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Mr John Meheux, the acting Zonal Commanding Officer, gave the figures at the inauguration of the operation at the Mowe, Ogun State Unit Command of the FRSC on Monday.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the one-week exercise will run till Sunday.

Meheux said, “A total of 120 personnel will partake in this one-week operation involving 10 vehicles, and of course the operation is strictly a motorised type of operation.

“The FRSC’s Operations Department in Abuja has identified some corridors in the six geo-political zones, where it observed high rates of road traffic crashes.

“The focus of this operation is to check speeding, which has been identified as one of the major causes of road crashes in Nigeria.

“The maximum speed limit on any Nigerian road is 100 kilometres per hour for any type of vehicle; of course, for trucks and others, you have lower speed limit.”

The zonal commanding officer said officials charged with the operations would ensure that motorists on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway adhered to speed limits. - PUNCH
