President Goodluck Jonathan, Thursday, donated N50 million to support the ‎building of the Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE) secretariat.
The donation was announced at the N850 million fund raising dinner by Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, who represented the President at the event, held at the Transcorp Hilton hotel, Abuja.

Maku, who cautioned the media against inciting reports, said “We should celebrate Nigeria Nigeria when we need to, not everything happening here is bad. People read what we write and they think the country is very bad.

“If we continue to run down our country when we go out we suffer it because people look at us with the impression they get from what they read.”
The minister, who took a swipe at politicians who go abroad to discus Nigeria’s problems, said “have you ever seen politicians from UK or US come here to discuss the problems in their country, or don’t they have problems over there.”

He reiterated that Jonathan administration had given more support to the media than any other administration since Shehu Shagari.
Among dignitaries present at the occasion were the governors of Edo State, Adams Oshomohle and his Delta‎ State counterpart, Emmanuel Uduaghan, who made what they described as “very handsome and beautiful donations” but refused to mention the amount.
