1.   New developments
•   The neighbouring areas of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia, which are heavily affected by Ebola, are to be managed as a "unified sector".
•   CDC's response to Ebola: In an effort to help control the Ebola outbreak, the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has activated its Emergency Operations Centre to its highest response level. They will deploy additional disease control staff to the affected countries in Africa within 30 days.
•   CDC experts on the ground in the affected areas are using a new software tool called Epi Info Viral Haemorrhagic Fever application which helps speed up identification of people who have been exposed to the virus (contacts).
•   WHO statement: The WHO Regional Director for Africa stated that Ebola is a serious public health problem that can still be controlled.

2.   Border closures
•   Zambia: has banned the entry of all nationals of Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. Zambians returning from those countries will be screened for Ebola.
•   Guinea: has closed all land borders with Sierra Leone and Guinea.

3.   Flight bans
•   Arik Air has suspended flights to Monrovia, Liberia and Freetown, Sierra Leone.
•   Asky Airline has suspended all flights from and to Monrovia, Liberia and Freetown, Sierra Leone.
•   Emirates Airline has suspended flights to Guinea with effect from August 2, 2014.
•   Flights and routes to and from the affected countries are monitored on a daily basis to assess impact.
•   Airline British Airways: all flights to and from Liberia and Sierra Leone have been suspended until 31 August 2014 "due to the deteriorating public health situation in both countries."

4.   World Health Organization (WHO): The World Health Organization has declared the Ebola situation to be a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).  WHO again reiterated there is "no general ban on international travel or trade".

5.   Screening in non-affected countries: Several countries in and outside Africa continue to conduct temperature screening of inbound passengers, particularly for flights arriving from countries that have Ebola cases. Travellers are advised not to travel if they are sick. Persons with fever or symptoms similar to Ebola-like symptoms may be taken to designated centres or have entry/exit denied.
