Fernando Torres joins Milan on a two-year loan deal

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has agreed to join Italian side AC Milan on a two-year loan deal. Both clubs have announced the deal on their respective club websites.

The move is now subject to him agreeing personal terms and passing a medical on Saturday.

The Spaniard joined Chelsea in January 2011 for a then-British record fee of £50m.

The player has scored 20 goals in 110 league appearances during his stay at Stamford Bridge.

With the arrival Diego Costa and return of Didier Drogba, Torres has dropped down the pecking order and has not featured for the club this season.

Manager Jose Mourinho said: “If he wants to leave, it’s because he wants to try a new life, a new club, probably a new league.”

The Italian giants are looking for another forward to replace Mario Balotelli, who left the club for Liverpool on 23 August.

Speaking on Milan’s Official website on Wednesday, Rossoneri vice-president Adriano Galliani said: “Torres is certainly an important forward and we will see if we can sign him or another player.”

Torres’s record fee stood until this week, before Angel Di Maria moved from Real Madrid to Manchester United for £59.7m.
