Despite the high numbers of smokers in Nigeria, 89% of them admitted that they would like to quit smoking, but do not know how. Recent reports indicate that Nigeria had the largest declines in tobacco consumption among the African countries at 7.5 percent, and it is thought that the increasing availability of electronic cigarettes has played a role.

1. They are better for your health

Electronic cigarettes are devices made of stainless steel or plastic that imitate cigarettes in appearance, usage, and taste. However, e-cigarettes are remarkably different from normal cigarettes in that they do not contain tobacco. E-cigarettes deliver nicotine while not subjecting the user to the toxic chemicals in tobacco and its smoke. While some e-cig products contain similar amount of nicotine found in regular cigarettes, many have lower amounts, making them less addictive. For this reason 20% of smokers have tried e-cigarettes in an attempt to give up smoking cigarettes, with Tycigs one of the most popular and high quality e-cigarette brands on the market.
2. Electronic Cigarettes are better for the environment

As well as being better for your health, e-cigs are better for the environment. E-cigarettes have been proven to provider an environmentally cleaner alternative to smoking cigarettes because they neither involve any tobacco burning or combustion. As well as this, because e-cigarettes don’t burn tobacco, they don’t emit smoke or carbon monoxide.
3. They can be re-used, again and again

Another benefit of e-cigarettes is that they are reusable as they are powered by battery, and as long as the battery is charged they can be reused anytime. Batteries of Tycigs brands are known to have longer lasting battery life.
4. It is safer for those around you

Smoking e-cigarette also protects non-smokers from the dangers of secondhand smoke. It is estimated that more than 2.5 million people have died from lethal effects of second-hand smoke in the last 50 years; studies further suggest that e-cig vapours are 10 times lower in nicotine than regular cigarette, and that the secondhand aerosol doesn’t contain significant amount of tobacco-specific toxins.
5. It can save you money!

As well as this, recent research has shown that smokers with a pack-a-day habit spend nearly twice more than e-cigarette smokers per year. A typical starter kit, which contains the e-cig device, a battery and several cartridges, can cost an average of 2,000 Naira (£8.74). A 20 pack tobacco cigarette costs about 200 Naira per pack. This means that a one-pack tobacco consumer per day will spend about 3600 Naira per year, nearly half of what an average e-cigarette smoker shall have consumed in the same duration.
6. They have been scientifically proven to help people stop smoking

It now appears that there is enough research to indicate that e-cigarettes are a promising route to help people stop smoking. As confirmed by Dr. Cheryl Healton, the president and CEO of the anti-tobacco Legacy Foundation, e-cigarettes are better way to quit smoking and offer a viable alternative for people, and governments, to reduce the number of cigarettes consumed.
