Lagos cautions public on fake ebola kits

Lagos State government has alerted members of the public to the activities of some unscrupulous people who are purportedly marketing fake “Ebola Cassette Test Kit.”
Special Adviser on Media to Lagos State Governor, Mr. Hakeem Bello, who disclosed this to  journalists, said the fake items which are branded as ‘Rapid Response Canada with test results purportedly available in 10 minutes’ is a hoax.

According to him, there are no Ebola test kits manufactured anywhere in the world, adding that the technique for its manufacture does not exist yet.
Bello urged members of the public not to patronize the dubious marketers of the product, whose stock in trade is to rip off unsuspecting members of the public.
Still on Ebola, Lagos State Government has stressed the need for all school children to observe basic environmental and personal hygiene as part of measures to curb the spread of the deadly Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever (EHF) when they resume September 22.
The state commissioner for education, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye, said that the students needed to inculcate simple and basic habits of environmental and personal hygiene, like hand washing with soap and running water and maintaining clean toilets.

The commissioner noted that the extension should afford all institutions, either private or public, the opportunity to further ensure that the school environment is well equipped with all facilities necessary for the well being of students and teachers.

She also allayed the fears of parents and guardians about the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) breaking out in schools stressing that the collaborative efforts of governments at all levels had brought the disease under control and proper management in the state. Oladunjoye lauded the efforts of all health workers who had been involved in the treatment and management of Ebola Virus.
