Lagos Approves Repatriation of 54 Synagogue Bodies to S/Africa

The Lagos State government yesterday approved the repatriation of 54 bodies of South Africans who died in the collapsed building of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN).

Governor Babatunde Fashola gave the approval at a meeting with delegates of the South African government, following complaints that the bodies were being held for too long.

No fewer than 116 people died when the guest house of SCOAN collapsed on September 12. Among them were 81 South Africans, three Zimbabweans and one Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) national.

The governor told the delegation that his administration had no reason to delay closure on the incident and in line with South African culture and traditions, rather, the state wanted to ensure proper identification.
