Still aggrieved over the sudden death of their daughter, Lucy Ukpong, who was hit by police stray bullet in Abuja, the parents of the 20-year old girl set to visit the Federal Capital Territory Police Command today to seek for justice over the death of Lucy.

The Ukpongs trip from their abode in Akwa-Ibom State to Abuja was to demand proper justice and ascertain what the police authorities are doing to bring their daughter’s killers to book.

It was gathered that Lucy, a salesgirl at a photography shop in Apo area, was reportedly hit in the chest, while three others sustained injuries by bullets allegedly fired by some policemen from the FCT Special Anti-robbery Squad.

The policemen fired the confrontation and sporadic gunshots in a bid to scare Apo residents who had resisted moves by the officials of the FCT development control department to demolish their structures.

Unfortunately, the 20-year girl who had just spent one year in the capital territory was said to be inside the shop when she was hit on her chest by a stray bullet.

According to her employer, Emeka Ani, he is patiently awaiting the arrival of Lucy’s parents in Abuja who are coming to find out what happened and also to make arrangements for the release of her body for burial.

“We are expecting Lucy’s parents in Abuja today(Sunday); they are already on their way and we believe they will get here before
nightfall. My boy who was injured in the hand by gunshot is recovering,” Ani said.

Meanwhile, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Doris England, assured that while the Criminal Investigation Department had commenced investigation into the tragic incident, the policemen on duty at the demolition site would be interrogated to know what transpired that led to the gunshots.

“By Monday or Tuesday, the CID would have interrogated the policemen and the development control officials to know what happened on that day. I cannot give any update until the investigation is concluded,”
she said.
