In what telecom experts are saying could be a huge move for the mobile phone market in Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria has announced that it will introduce Nano SIM cards onto the market. It also announced that any user who purchases the new iPhone 5 in the country will receive a free Nano SIM with their smartphone in an effort to boost the mobile market.

The current data plans for the iPhone will start at 200 MB and higher, and Airtel said that activation of the phone is free with the new purchase.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) hopes that the move will also help create better customer service for Airtel. It comes as the NCC has pressured mobile operators to improve their services for subscribers in the country after it said it has seen an increase in users complaining about services in the country.

“The Nano Sim card 4FF has the basic functionality of a SIM card, but comes in a smaller size,” the company said in announcing the new SIM. Source
