Oyo Lawmaker Calls for Law against Abuse of Social Media
« on: November 03, 2012, 09:12:36 AM »
As a fallout of the money laundering allegations against the wife of the Oyo State Governor, Mrs Florence Ajimobi, a lawmaker in the state, Honorable Segun Olaleye has asked the Federal Government to make laws against the “misuse” of social media by “disgruntled elements in the public.”

Honorable Olaleye who is also the chairman of the Oyo State House of Assembly committee on Public Accounts, Finance and Appropriation, said he believed that the rumor was an attempt by the opposition to discredit the Abiola Ajimobi-led government in the state.

In his words, “In the same vein, I want to call on the Federal Government to generate certain laws to guide against unprofessional practice by some writers who just sit down and peddle unfounded rumors… I want to say that it is becoming unacceptable in democracy for people to spread unfounded rumors and lies against other people with the intents of discrediting them. Politics must be done with mutual respect and ability to engage others constructively. Source
