Making yourself Employable
« on: April 16, 2012, 04:04:01 PM »
I was privilege to talk to some people about being employable and below are the points I listed for that talk. There is a lot written below but i guess you can pick what works for you

Understand yourself: Discover Yourself

Myles Munroe: The greatest discovery in life is the discovery of ones self so Know Yourself or you abuse yourself,
Discover what you have and let it give you a delivery
When you discover yourself, You will see your sense of Direction

Very few of us have a clear idea about what we want to do and we get out there before we know it.

For a glass that is dropping off, you'd say "be careful" because you know what that glass is made of.

- Who am I (rest in what God Says?)
- What are my Talents
- What are my Gifts?
- What are my Interests?
- Ask your friends who you are, look at the mirror - your best friend and your worst enemy

-...The thinking of a child, simple, Today's Shell for all

Who am I?

- My Emotional Intelligence Quotient
- My Personality Type: MBTI Myer Briggs test Code?
- My Temperament (Sanguine, Phlegm, Melancholy, Choleric)
- My Signature Theme using Marcus Birhimgham's classification?

Have a Passion

“A little boy once asked an old man what the future was going to look exactly as you make it to look” - simple, if you don’t change it, It stays
You are the architect of your own destiny

Time is leaking away and across the skies is the shadow of our future; we are faced with a choice either to invent our future or sit back and hope that “what would be would be”

“the whole world is waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God” God is preparing you, are you prepared?

Passion is not just a feeling; it is a strong feeling that gives your heart a burden.
Passion is the platform on which world changers function and operate from
Passion is an emotional commitment towards desired change

Don’t just sit down doing nothing; a generation is waiting for you

“thus your passion is a pointer to the one you are to be”- Mike Murdock
What you love doing is a clue to the gift of God in you - Mike Murdock

... Get A Skill

What have you learnt in college, University or are about to learn?

Learn something, learn how to do something
Nobody wants a liability, everyone wants an asset
Don’t want to be a liability, be useful for something, Let people know you and miss you for something.
If you don’t have anything, you have nothing to offer
Look at the scriptures: Everybody was busy doing something before the higher calling David, Samuel, Moses, Daniel, Jesus

How to:
Join extra classes
Get a Friend to teach you, Don’t be afraid to ask for help, The day you learn is the last day you don’t know it
Read books in that field of yours: readers are leaders
Get a Mentor, Talk to people in your area of calling
Research and propound your own theories
Be informative about your field surroundings

Have a Focused and be determined to achieve something

Know what you want, know how you like to work, Know where you would like to work (not for money for a purpose)
Dont be a grabber, be a contributor
Dr Myles Munroe said “Do not live to get by, live to get ahead in life”
Focus on that path that leads to your happiness via your gifts and potentials
Nothing deters a determine Man
You can be more than what you are now if you will place a demand on your potentials through the force of determination and decision.
Be persistent

There is always delivery when you are in tune with God and your passion
If you wait too long for people to come and help you up, you'll waste so get up now

Package Yourself

Package yourself as an individual - Try not to just appear anyhow [unless you have a name]
- Learn to knot a tie, even ladies. Guys learn colour combination.
Learn to Communicate better, Learn communication skills (not only functional skills), Learn to write, letters e.t.c
Package your gifts and Skill for a delivery
Flaunt that gift and potentials of yours, broadcast it
Have your pack always (CVs, Your works)
Reach out and be reachable
Be Creative about your approach to things
Get the right association to help you there

Employ Yourself

Yes Employ Yourself
Start doing something no matter how small: It helps the understanding of anything: Helps you garner your experience
Plan for that future of yours with ... Map out the future you want
Don’t be afraid to start small
It is the choices that you made yesterday that brought you where you are today so make the right decisions today for tomorrow
Practice that which you know: Everything is not about money
Seeth a man that is diligent in his works, He shall walk before kings and not mere men”– Proverbs 22:29
