Jim Ovia Foundation partners ISPON for IT/Software Excellence Awards

One of Nigeria’s leading Foundations committed to the socio-economic development of the Nation, the Jim Ovia Foundation has restated its commitment to the development of the dynamic and innovative software Industry , by going into partnership with the Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON).

The partnership is to initiate projects and programmes that will woo young and vibrant Nigerian entrepreneurs into exploring and utilizing the vast opportunities in the lucrative digital and ICT sector .

Meanwhile on Friday, the 25th of January, 2013 the Foundation announced the institution of the ‘Prize for Software excellence’ in the country, designed to award professionals that have distinguished themselves in the growth and development of the Industry in the nation.

Reacting to this development, the President of the Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria(ISPON) Dr Chris Uwaje said the partnership of the Institute with the Jim Ovia Foundation on ‘Prize for Software excellence’ was a laudable effort.

He described the initiative as first of its kind in the Nation, and believed it was going to contribute immensely to the growth of the ICT sector , which has been experiencing numerous challenges.

Dr Uwaje believed that the Prize will serve as an incentive to boost the performance level of start-up software firms, and will also increase competition level in the country, creating a platform for more inventiveness, innovation and dynamism.

The ISPON President further stated that “From its modest beginning some 50 years ago, computer software has become a critical element of modern society, with global reach and impact on virtually every aspect of human endeavour. Software is a key enabling technology in business, industry, government, and defence, and permeates products and services of all kinds. It is no exaggeration to state that the progress of modern society is now totally and irrevocably dependent on software, as clearly exemplified by the year 2000 bug (Y2K) crisis”.
