6 Dead as Multiple Explosions Herald the Visit of Nine APC Governors to the City

Nine governors of the parties involved in the proposed merger under the auspices of the All Progressive Congress (APC) on Thursday met in the capital of Borno State, Maiduguri, even as the city erupted in multiple explosions.

Three explosions were reported to have occurred simultaneously at Baga Road, Customs, and Gamboru at about 3 pm, while a fourth explosion was heard at London Ciki at about 6 pm. So far, unconfirmed reports have revealed that at least six people have been feared dead with several others injured.

The Governors present at the meeting included Governors Rochas Okorocha (APGA Imo), Kayode Fayemi (ACN Ekiti), Babatunde Fashola (ACN Lagos), Umaru Tanko Al-Makura (CPC Nasarawa), Ibikunle Amosun (ACN Ogun), Rauf Aregbesola (ACN Osun), Deputy Governor of Yobe, Abubakar Aliyu (ANPP), Adams Oshiomole (ACN Edo) and host Governor, Kashim Shettima. Absent were Governors Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo and Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara. They however sent messages of solidarity.

In a communiqué released after the meeting, the governors expressed their resolve to rescue the country from what they described as a visionless leadership.
