A trader, Mrs. Sola Onawale, has pleaded with the Agege Customary Court to dissolve her union with Mr. Ibrahim Onawale and grant her the custody of her children.

The union has produced two children, Foworola, who is five-and-a-half years old and Kolapo, two-and-a-half years old.

The woman explained to the court that she took her children to visit their father at his shop after she had packed out of his house in March.

She claimed she did this because the first child insisted on seeing her father.

Unfortunately, however, she met her husband’s apprentice, whom she dropped the children with.

She said, “It was around May-June last year since Ibrahim took the children away from me. Since then, I have been to Child Welfare in Ijaiye to report the issue. “They told Ibrahim to come with the children but instead, he came with a note saying his elder brother would handle the case because it was a family issue.  “Since then, my children have been with him because he has refused to give them to me instead, he took them to his wife’s (a policewoman) house, where they are currently staying.”

Ibrahim told the court that the children were with his mother in his sister’s house.

He explained that his wife, out of anger, came and dumped the children, including the little boy that was still being breast-fed as he was only 10 months old then. The court asked him who breast-fed the baby if his wife actually dumped him while he was still sucking breast milk.

He said, “My mother breast-fed my baby when my wife dumped our children with me.”

But the wife denied that her child was still being breast-fed at the time and that she only took the children visiting, but her husband never gave them back to her. She said his sister could bear her witness because she informed her about all that was happening. - Punch News
