Two young men have been arraigned before the Oshodi Magistrate's Court for assaulting and stabbing one Ojoaraba Olaniyi.

The accused allegedly engaged in a fight at about 12 pm at Mosafejo Motor Park, Oshodi.

During the fight, one of the suspects, who is currently at large, allegedly stabbed the victim.

The police charged Ismaila Popoola and Ahmed Segun to court for stabbing the victim with a broken bottle on March 26, 2013.

The police report stated that Ismaila wanted to buy sachet water and he approached a girl for assistance but the girl refused and ran to her mother's shop.

Ismaila decided to get the water by himself, and when he got to the shop, he met the girl there.

He challenged her for running away despite the fact that she was aware that he needed her assistance.

In the process, two boys, whose names are yet unknown, challenged and accused Ismaila of trying to woo the girl.

Ismaila responded with a barrage of abuses and a fight ensued.

While the fight was going on, two of Ismaila's friends; Afuye Keshe and Elenu joined in. Afuye allegedly broke a bottle and stabbed the victim with it.

Ojoaraba, the victim, who is a vulcanizer at the same motor park, said to the police, "I was sleeping when I felt a sharp pain in my left hand, I woke up immediately only to see that I have been stabbed.

"I can recognise the person who stabbed me. He's not my friend but I see him around and I don't have any misunderstanding with him."

The victim has been taken to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba for treatment.

The police said efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects had proved abortive.

The suspects, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges levelled against them.

The court president, Mr. A.A. Fashola, granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with a surety each, who must be gainfully employed.

The case was adjourned till April 25, 2013.
