Kolawole Ahmed, a manager with Ikoyi Golf Club, closed from work early Saturday morning.

He headed for home in Ikorodu area of Lagos, driving a Toyota Hilux Pick-up van, belonging to Ikoyi Golf Club, in company with three others.

But then tragedy struck around Majidun River along Ikorodu as the vehicle, apparently on top speed, skidded past the edge of the bridge over the river and plunged into it. The four persons were feared killed Saturday night, as though a search party recovered the damaged vehicle with registration number KSF 918 AU, there was no trace of the four.

An eyewitness who gave his name as Solomon said, "The accident happened in the morning when I was driving out; it is like the driver lost control or something. He didn't slow down before approaching the bridge. The next we saw was the vehicle somersaulted and plunged into the river."

General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke- Osanyintolu, who confirmed the accident, said the van had been recovered while rescue operation continued Saturday last night to recover the bodies of the four missing persons.

He said: "A Hilux van owned by Ikoyi Golf club, plunged into Majidun river in Ikorodu at about 5.30 am this morning. Upon notification of the incident, stakeholders moved to the scene and rescue operation commenced.

"The vehicle has been recovered, however, bodies of the four occupants are yet to be recovered."

Oke-Osanyintolu said rescue operation had intensified to ensure that the missing persons are recovered.

Navy officers and local divers were seen at the scene helping out with rescue operation.
