Nigeria’s U-20 men's football team Flying Eagles will wear black armbands in their semifinal clash against their Malian counterparts to honour late Taiwo Ogunjobi former Secretary-General and Member the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) board.

The Flying Eagles are currently at the ongoing 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations (AFCON) holding in the Niger Republic.

The team is currently preparing for their semifinal fixture against Mali after beating hosts Niger Republic in their final group game to progress to the knock out stages and qualify for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup scheduled for Poland later in the year.

The Amaju Pinnick led NFF were forced into mourning after it was announced that former Secretary General Ogunjobi was confirmed to have passed away.

The NFF made an appeal to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to honour their late member with black armbands.

The armband request has been confirmed to be granted by CAF as NFF’s Director of Competitions Bola Oyeyode.

In a report on the NFF website, Oyeyode said, “We have received the go-ahead from CAF that the Flying Eagles can use the black armbands. It is the least honour that we can accord such an accomplished man who was a football person through and through.”
