The Federal Government has warned the United States of America (USA) not to cross the line, as it regards the upcoming general elections.
According to Daily Post, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama made the position of the government known during a meeting with representatives of the US National Security Council on Monday, February 11, 2019.
The report states that Onyeama met with the Senior Director for Africa and Special Assistant to the United States President, Cyril Sartor on the sidelines of the 32nd Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union in Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia.
Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, the minister said “I met a representative for Africa on the US National Security Council and we discussed elections in Nigeria and I pointed out that the government was absolutely determined to have free, fair, credible and transparent elections, that Mr. President has invested in that.

Onnoghen’s case
Following the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen by President Buhari on Friday, January 25, 2019, over his failure to declare his assets, the US, UK and EU separately issued statements expressing worry about the development.
They also called for a peaceful resolution of the issues arising from Onnoghen’s suspension.
FG blows hot
In its reaction, the presidency, through its spokesman, Garba Shehu said the Federal Government will not condone foreign interference in Nigeria’s issues.
The presidential spokesman also promised the international community that the 2019 elections will be free and fair.

In another incident, the Kaduna state Governor, Nasir El-Rufai attacked foreigners on national television.
The Governor threatened to send any foreigner who interferes in Nigeria’s affairs, back home in a body bag.
The comment sparked public outrage, forcing him to issue another statement saying that he made the comment to protect Nigeria’s sovereignty.
Festus Keyamo, spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign council has also accused the US Ambassador to Nigeria, W. Stuart Symington of tactically supporting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
