TWO people were, on Thursday morning, killed and some others injured in a multiple motor accident which occured at Ile Zik Bus Stop, on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

Crowd at the scene of the incident blamed the accident on the overzealousness of some policemen, who were trying to impound a motorcycle.

The incident created serious traffic gridlock on the ever busy route,  as motorists were stranded for over four hours, with emergency workers trying to evacuate the mangled body of the affected vehicles.

One of the deceased was a passer-by, simply identified as Gbenga and member of staff of the SLOT Telecommunications company. A non-teaching staff at  Anifowoshe Primary School, who pleaded anonymity, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, described the survivors of the crash as “very lucky people.”

He narrated  that “ an okada rider and his two passengers were, around 10.00 a.m.  riding on the road , when he noticed that a police van was chasing him.

“In an attempt to prevent his okada being impounded, he fell down with his passengers and they all ran away.

“A refrigerating van,  popularly known as Eko Meat van, whose driver had wanted to avoid crushing the motorcyclist and his passengers got hit from the rear by a container-laden truck with registration No AKD964XB.

“One of the two 20-ft containers on the truck  fell on the meat van with the registration  No XY 433 AAA, crushing it beyond repair.

The truck meandered to the other side of the road, where it crushed the passer-by, Gbenga, an official of SLOT.

The driver of the meat van and his three passengers, who were severely injured in the crash, were taken to an unnamed hospital.

The driver reportedly gave up the ghost on getting to the hospital.”
