The students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have taken to the streets of their campus over the ‘tremendous increase in the prizes of food items’.

This protest which lasted for three days started on Sunday, June 9, 2013 and continued till Tuesday, June 11 has led to the shutting of shops both in halls of residence and around the campus by the Dean of Student affairs, Olukayode Almond.

According to the Punch, the protest was initiated by the President of the Law Students Society, Seun Lari-Williams who saw that students were being extorted. For instance, N90 noodles were being sold for N120, N5 pure water for N10, to mention a few.

However, a meeting was held between student leaders, school management and representatives of sellers of goods and services on the campus and they have agreed on acceptable prices for goods and services in UNILAG.
