Five People Killed in Ekiti

Five people were killed yesterday when angry youths stormed the palace of Apeju of Ilupeju-Ekiti and chased out the monarch, Oba Olaleye Oniyelu, for installing an unpopular traditional chief.

The monarch’s candidate for the war chief title, Mr. Ojo, was on his was to the palace to receive the title, when some youths blocked and prevented him from entering the palace and the struggle began. Five houses were also burnt down.

Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Ekiti State Command of the Nigeria Police, Mr. Victor Babayemi, revealed that  22 people were arrested  in connection with the crisis. The five people shot are receiving treatment.
