THE Niger State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Tuesday said it had arrested six suspected burglars in Gurara Local government Area of the State.

The Corps Commandant, Mr Ikemefun Izuka, while briefing journalists in Minna, capital of the state, said reports of thieves breaking into people’s shops and houses had become rampant in Gurara area.

He said,  “We laid siege on those break-in thieves and luckily, we were able to apprehend six of them.”

Izuka said some of the items recovered on them include wrappers, jewellery, jerry cans of groundnut oil, crates of eggs, provisions and other items found in a provision store.

He said some of the shop owners and residents of the area had identified some of the items recovered to be their own.

The corps commandant said the alleged thieves had broken into 17 houses including shops within the last three months in the area.

He said investigation into the matter was ongoing, adding that after investigation they would be charged to court.

“The people involved in this act are youths between the ages of 18 and 30”, he said.
