Police in Kwara State paraded ten armed robbery suspects before Journalists on Thursday at the Force Headquarters in Ilorin for their alleged involvement in various crimes within and outside the state.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Olufemi Fabode alleged that three of the suspects, Adewumi Kayode (36), Abiodun Abdulmalik Ojulari (32), and Akeem Afolabi (31), were responsible for the murder of one Dr. Ariyo Adewumi, who was a staff of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, (UITH) in April this year.

“The armed hoodlums also ransacked the home of their victim and made away with valuables such as a Honda Accord car with registration number AA 685 AU, two Blackberry mobile phones, one Samsung Galaxy handset, a plasma TV set, sound system, jewellery and other valuable items,”
Fabode said.

“On receiving the information, the scene of crime was immediately visited by the police operatives and necessary preliminary investigative actions were taken, leading to the recovery of weapons used for the operation.”

The PPRO also said that the command apprehended a four-man gang that specialises in snatching cars at gunpoint and robbing residents. One of them, a certain Seun, is presently at large.

Fabode said another suspect, Segun Abraham, was arrested with a locally-made pistol and three live cartridges, following a tip-off.

He said that another five-man armed robbery gang had attacked and robbed a former vice chairman of Offa Local Government Area at his Offa residence in March, carting away his car and other valuables. The gang was arrested during a raid at Ariya Hotel in the metropolis.

The spokesman further said that officers of the anti-cult department of the state CID, stormed the rendezvous of Eiye secret cult at Gaa-akanbi area Ilorin and arrested Aina Abayomi, Kabiru Kufo and Olagbinyan Oluwatobi with a locally-made revolver pistol and 9mm live ammunition.

“Upon further interrogation, the suspects admitted and confessed to the police that on 14 June, 2013 and 17 June, 2013 at about 2000hrs and 2030hrs respectively, they and their gang members now at large, robbed some people around Tanke area of Ilorin, dispossessed their victims of their handsets, laptops and other valuables at gunpoint,” Fabode said.

Fabode, however, promised that the suspects would soon be charged to court to face the full wrath of the law.
