In reaction to the nationawide NCC cancellation of Part time programmes, http://www.naijagist.com/forum/index.php/topic,725.0.html, Anambra State University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Fidelis Okafor, has said that he is yet to receive a letter from the National Universities Commission suspending part-time programmes in universities.

The Vice-Chancellor of the Anambra State University, Prof. Fidelis Okafor, has said that he is yet to receive a letter from the National Universities Commission suspending part-time programmes in universities.

Okafor, who spoke with journalists on Wednesday at the Igbariam campus of the university, however, said that there was no cause for concern about the part-time programmes run by the university.

He said as far as he was concerned, the university had complied with all the requirements for the running of part-time programmes and was sure that the institution would not receive the hammer from NUC.

Okafor said, “It is not fully suspended. What NUC is saying is, ‘hold on, let us do some investigation.’ Sometimes, there are abuses. And this is what the NUC is trying to guard against.

“But we have all that it takes to give our part-time students what regular students are taking. NUC has however, not written us officially on the suspension of part-time programmes.”

The vice-chancellor stated that the security strategies adopted by the institution to check cultism and violence among students recently paid off when some students were caught with four guns following a tipoff .

He said, “The students, who were supposed to be seen with laptops, books and writing materials were arrested with firearms. They have been handed over to the police for further investigations.”

Okafor recalled that last year, more than 400 students that were members of campus cults had renounced their memberships after an intensive campaign to rid the campus of cults.
