Ibadan Poly shut over students’ protest
« on: July 19, 2012, 11:45:40 AM »
FOLLOWING a violent protest by its students over the death of their colleague, the management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Wednesday ordered the immediate closure of Eruwa campus of the institution.

The students had damaged the institution’s health centre, accusing the medical personnel of being responsible for their colleague’s death.

But when contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr. Soladoye Adewole, dismissed the students’ claims and accused them of concealing the truth.

He said: “One of our students died. He fell sick and was taken to our health centre. He was okay and even played football after his treatment.”

But, the sickness relapsed. Instead of bringing him to the health centre which opens every 24 hours, they took him to a private clinic where he died”.

Soladoye said the management had to close down the institution to prevent further destruction of property.
