INEC Urges Parties To Brace Up For Governorship Election
« on: August 23, 2013, 03:13:42 PM »

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has advised political parties in Ekiti to begin preparation for the next year’s governorship election in a positive manner.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Mr Halilu Pai, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ado Ekiti.

He expressed the hope that the parties would use the remaining time limit to sensitise their followers to how to vote right.

He said voters’ education would reduce incidences of void votes, instead of dissipating energy on needless crisis.

He said the commission would be neutral in its activities by giving all parties and their candidates equal opportunities.

He said: “The commission has commenced meeting with leaders of the various political parties ahead of the election on the need to maintain peace before, during and after the poll.

``I expect the political parties to start the voters’ education for the electorate now and I also wish to advise eligible voters to look for their voters' cards.

``That is the only licence that could guarantee their being allowed to vote or be voted for.”

Pai urged the various political parties and their followers to conduct themselves in a mature manner for peace to reign during campaigns.

He thanked the people of the state for their support and cooperation so far and urged them to give more support to the commission. (NAN)
