Gunmen kill eight again in Kaduna village
« on: September 03, 2013, 09:02:33 AM »
Gunmen have raided Adu Village in Attakar Chiefdom, in the Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State, leaving eight persons dead.

The latest attack on the village in the early hours of Monday , according to an eyewitness, left scores of children and women injured. The injured, it was learnt, were receiving treatment at the Kafachan General Hospital at the time of this report .

A similar attack in the neighbouring Mafang and Zilang villages in April left no fewer than 19 people killed while over 4000 people were rendered homeless.

“They came in the early hours of today (Monday). I can’t remember the exact time now. They started shooting; the villagers who ran in different directions were hit by bullets. Some of them died on the spot while several others, mostly children and women that sustained varying degrees of injuries were taken to the Kafanchan General Hospital. They are currently receiving treatment there,” the eye witness told our correspondent on Monday.

Our correspondent learnt that the attackers were later apprehended inside a Vectra car and in clothes stained with blood.

The Kaduna State Police Command confirmed the incident but said only seven persons were killed in what it described as a reprisal attack.

Commissioner of Police Olufemi Adenaike said the killing was a reprisal attack on the people of the area by Fulani herdsmen.

He said the attack was not in Attakar village but an isolated community of not more than six houses and about 10 kilometres from Attakar.

He said that five of those who carried out the attack in the village had been arrested.

According to him, the Fulani herdsmen came into the village at about 3.00am.

The CP said: “The Fulani herdsmen on a reprisal attack came into the village at about 3am. It was not Attakar; it’s an isolated community with six houses. It is about 10 kilometres from Attakar and the road is not motorable.
