The intervention of the governor of the Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan in the Olu of Warri/itsekris crisis notwithstanding, scores of members of the ethnic group are calling on the respected monarch to step down if he is tired of the cultural heritage of the people.


On Monday that angry youths, last Saturday and Sunday morning, besieged the palace of the monarch, over his purported renunciation of his Ogiame title as a result of his newfound faith in Jesus Christ.


Masquerades were deployed to the palace of the monarch at the wee hours of Sunday, thereby preventing the monarch from attending church service, being a staunch member of the Four Square Gospel Church.


The Atuwatse II is now being asked to honourably step aside by his subjects, insisting that his action is dragging the name of the Itsekiri in the mud.


Info gathered that the people are strongly opposed to their respected monarch's plans to change the title of Ogiame, an issue they regarded as an abomination in Iwereland.


It was pieced that hot arguments ensued between supporters of the monarch and those opposed to his new faith, at the palace on Sunday, even after the intervention of the governor of the state.


Reactions gathered showed that the protesters no longer want the Olu as their king as he is yet to rescind his decision.


Reacting to the latest development, a Warri -based cleric, Reverend (Dr) Stephen Gbejero of the Hour of Faith Deliverance Ministry, Warri, described the ongoing imbroglio as unfortunate and shameful.


According to him, Itsekiri has never in its history, challenged their monarch for over 500 years, informing that the ethnic group migrated from the Benin Kingdom in Edo State.
