TY Danjuma donates N500 for youth centre, says insecurity is due to Unemployment

Former minister of defence General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd) yesterday blamed the deteriorating security situation on high rate of unemployment in the country.

Danjuma, who spoke at the second graduation ceremony of the Youth Centre for Industrial Training held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, expressed regret that unemployment and insecurity had now become the foremost challenges confronting Nigeria. He appealed to the federal and state governments to take urgent steps towards addressing the "worrisome" situation.

The multi-million naira centre was established by the retired primate of the Anglican Church, Most Rev. Peter Akinola, to train unemployed youths to acquire skills in various vocations, including welding, electrical installation, tailoring, hairdressing, mechanic, vulcanising and masonry, among others.

Danjuma said: "Is it not sad to see our teeming youths roaming the streets aimlessly on daily basis because they have no jobs? It is so worrisome. But you would agree with me that the high rate of unemployment in the country has also been worsened by the security situation.

"In fact, unemployment and insecurity have now become the foremost challenges confronting our nation. I think the federal and state governments should do something urgently to solve this problem to avoid a worse situation."

Danjuma, who donated N500million for the centre to expand its facilities, said it was sad seeing many youths roaming the streets due to lack of jobs.
