According to a news source ...

"Thirteen people (on board) have been confirmed dead, six injured, while one person is still unaccounted for," Obi said.

An official from the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency said the cause of the crash was engine failure and that the plane burst into flames after hitting the ground.

The plummeting aircraft narrowly missed a series of large, fuel-laden containers that lie between the international and domestic terminals, ultimately crashing in a muddy area, an AFP reporter said.

Rescue workers and firefighters were combing through the charred and scattered fuselage, some of which was embedded in the heavy mud.

The aircraft's black box had been located and handed over to aviation officials, Yakubu Datti, an aviation ministry spokesman at the scene told AFP.

« Reply #3 on: October 04, 2013, 09:05:59 AM »
Some hoodlums on Thursday were seen exchanging blows and throwing bottles at one another over the money they found on the dead victims of the Associated Airline plane crash.

When our correspondent got to the scene of the incident, he observed that the hoodlums had turned the road leading to the crash site to a boxing ground.

It was learnt that when the hoodlums were assisting in the evacuation of the victims, they allegedly searched the victims’ pockets for money and other valuable things.

It was also learnt that they fight ensued due to alleged ‘insincerity’ in the sharing of the money they stole from the dead.

One of the hoodlums, identified simply as Loko, was heard saying, “You won’t believe that after the whole rescue thing, we luckily found money and they don’t want to share it equally.”

Agagu’s burial to hold today despite recent happenings
« Reply #5 on: October 04, 2013, 11:24:53 AM »
Late Dr. Olusegun Agagu, the immediate past governor of OndoState, will be buried today as planned.
Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ondo State, Ebenezer Alabi, said: “We just consulted with the family and have decided to go ahead with the burial.

“More so, the son of the former governor survived and the son-in-law survived. There was no scratch on the casket.

“So while the family sympathised with those that lost their lives and their loved ones, they have decided to go ahead with the burial as was initially planned.”

Also, the body of the former governor, which was still intact despite the plane crash, is in transit to Iju-Odo, his country home and final place of rest.

It was gathered that the family of late Agagu in Iju-Odo had ordered that his remains be conveyed to his home town, yesterday, by road to continue with the burial arrangement.

A dependable family source said that the burial will now be done without the usual pomp and pageantry.

This is coming after the death of 11 persons, including a Commissioner in the state, Deji Falae, top government officials and the crew.

Wife, daughters relocate to Iju-Odo

Mrs Olufunke Agagu, wife of late former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, and her daughters, Solape and Omowunmi, have relocated to Iju-Odo in Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state for today’s burial of the ex-governor.

They were initially housed at a popular hotel in Akure after the incident, but following directives from elders of the family, they moved to their deceased bread-winner’s country home yesterday afternoon.

It was gathered that the wife of the former governor insisted that burial arrangements of her late husband will take place as earlier scheduled. A family source said Mrs Agagu insisted that burial plans should go ahead after she confirmed and spoke with her son (Feyi) and son in-law, who were involved in the crash.

The Christian wake-keep was held as scheduled, yesterday, while the body will be interred today.
Vanguard learnt that the plan of the family to go ahead with the burial arrangement had been communicated to the burial committee and the state government.

A member of the burial committee, who confirmed the decision of the Agagu family to go ahead with the burial despite the air mishap, however, expressed concerns over the plan.

Speaking in confidence, the member said that the burial ought to have been shifted at least for one week in honour of those that died in the crash.
