Redesigning naira has nothing to do with fighting terrorists, kidnappers – Fr Kelvin

Popular Nigerian Catholic priest on mission in the Gambia, Fr Kelvin Ugwu, has criticized the Central Bank of Nigeria for its new policy of redesigning the naira notes.Fr Kelvin said the policy has nothing to do with fighting terrorists or kidnappers.Recall that the CBN had announced that it would launch new naira notes before the end of the year. But in a tweet on Sunday afternoon, Fr Kelvin lamented that the Gambian Dalasi has become more valuable than the Nigerian Naira. He wrote: “The Gambian Dalasi is at today 11.5 times more valuable than the Nigerian Naira. You will need N115,000 naira just to exchange it for D10,000 Dalasis. But the headline trending in Nigeria is how those in the same Govt are arguing amongst themselves about the issue of redesigning and repackaging the look of the already empty naira notes. Maybe they will put Buhari’s face in one or all of the naira notes they want to redesign so that if e pain you, you can go and cry like #EwuGambia.“If I talk now, it is still you people who love to take sides with your oppressors that will gather here to tell me that I suppose to be preaching the Bible and prayers and that I should leave politics, economics and the need to vote sound leaders out of my preaching.“Redesigning the naira notes has nothing to do with fighting terrorists or kidnappers. If today, the Buhari govt wants terrorism in Nigeria to be a thing of the past, they have all it takes to do it, and redesigning the naira notes is the least of the many options before them”.
