The University of Johannesburg and Covenant University are seeking platforms to establish research collaboration.

This was highlighted during a visit to CU by a 13-man delegation from the University of Johannesburg, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ihron Rensburg.

A statement by CU, made available to Saturday PUNCH, quoted Professor Rensburg as commending the CU management for its programmes.

He noted that CU’s brand inspired their desire for collaboration.

“University of Johannesburg is a product of a merger; we are a young university and we are encouraged by the progress that Covenant University has made.

“We are encouraged by your ambition, obviously informed by your deep commitment, your doggedness and in fact, your emergence out of a deep belief system.

“We have not only come to take, but also to give back, as this is what would make the relationship mutual,” said Rensburg.

CU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Ayo, received the team in company with other members of management.

In his response, he commended the efforts of the team from University of Johannesburg, for the great work that has earned it a ranking among the top four universities in the world.

Ayo said that since CU had a vision to be listed among the 10 best universities in the next 10 years, there was a need to explore diverse models.

He said that CU’s abolition of the award of ‘Pass Degree’ and the introduction of ‘Entrepreneurial Studies’ as a general course in the university, has become entrenched in national education policy in Nigeria.
