(1/1)
dayod247:
The Nigeria Union of Teachers, FCT wing, has registered its displeasure with the recently conducted biometric exercise on its members within the FCT and threatened to go on indefinite strike.
In a communique which was released after the union’s meeting in Gwagwalada, Abuja, the union said the results which were released after the exercise were unrealistic and unreliable and accused the administration of attempts to inflict hardship on its members.
In the communique which was signed by Comrade Hassan Jibrin, Labaran Garba and Mohammed Jiya who are chairman, secretary and publicity secretary respectively, the union vehemently condemned the recent directive to stop the salaries of over 3000 of its members following the release of the result of the biometric exercise.
It further resolved that “If after two weeks from the date of the receipt of this letter, the authority concern fails to withdraw the circular issued on the stoppage of teachers’ salaries as from the month of October, 2013, our members will embark on an indefinite strike, where all schools in both primary and post primary levels will be shut down.”
It also observed the inadequate provision of instructional materials in the schools, irregular release of teachers’ promotion, stoppage of study leave and in service for teachers and other gross anomalies which it said was a threat to the realisation of achieving the national educational objectives.
