flukky01:
Google has acquired Nest Labs, the people behind the Nest Learning Thermostat.

The Mountain View titan bought Nest for $3.2-billion in cash, Google said in a statement.

Nest Labs made its name thanks to the Nest Learning Thermostat, a smart thermostat which also boasts connectivity via a downloadable app.

The thermostat is capable of turning itself off when the home is empty, with users also able to build a temperature schedule.

"Nest's founders, Tony Fadell and Matt Rogers, have built a tremendous team that we are excited to welcome into the Google family," said Google CEO Larry Page.

"They're already delivering amazing products you can buy right now - thermostats that save energy and smoke/CO alarms that can help keep your family safe. We are excited to bring great experiences to more homes in more countries and fulfill their dreams!"

"We're thrilled to join Google. With their support, Nest will be even better placed to build simple, thoughtful devices that make life easier at home, and that have a positive impact on the world," said Nest CEO Tony Fadell, who is set to stay on as CEO of Nest Labs. http://technology.iafrica.com/news/893702.html
