The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service has uncovered a notorious baby factory syndicate at Ilutitun in Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state.

The syndicate was nabbed by the anti-trafficking detectives of the Command after several months of intelligence gathering and discreet surveillance.

Information gathered was that the owner of the factory, Mrs. Happiness Ogundeji had once been arrested in Imo State for a similar offence.

Among those arrested were five pregnant women, five nursing mothers, five babies and eight men, some of whom were Hausas.

The duty of the young men arrested was to impregnate the ladies and certain amount of money would be paid to them after it was confirmed that a particular lady is pregnant.

Also discovered at the baby factory were eight luxury cars, food stuff, baby items among others.

It was gathered that young girls between the ages of 20 and 25 were recruited into the home where some young men equally ‘serviced’ them.

The baby factory syndicate allegedly operated at a well-secured two flats apartment at Ilutitun, Okitipupa council area and has been operating for decades.

The prime suspect, Mrs. Ogundeji has however denied that the place was being used for such criminal act, claiming that the house was just her natural Herbal healing home where she attends to pregnant ladies.

Parading the suspects before reporters at the Command’s headquarters in Akure, today, the State Comptroller of immigration, Mr Musa Al-Hassan said 24 suspects were been paraded in connection with the incident.

Al-Hassan said the suspects were arrested following a combined operation of his officers and the military after the suspects had earlier resisted arrest.

According to him, “The Immigration Service headquarters in Abuja, however, got wind of activities of the syndicate, following a tip-off from Cross Rivers State Command of the Service and subsequently directed the Ondo State Command and its Imo State counter-part to swing into action by apprehending the syndicate.

”Subsequently, anti-human trafficking officials of the Ondo State Command led by Obisesan Abiola moved into action and got necessary intelligence reports which revealed that Mrs Ogundeji in connivance with a Cameroonian were operating the home”.

He said the Command will always collaborate with sister security agencies in ridding the state of all forms of criminality.

However, one of the pregnant girls in her early twenties who simply gave her name as ‘Grace’ and claimed to be a student of Lagos State University (LASU) insisted that she was not part of those involved in the criminal act.image

She said that she was in that house because she was impregnated by one of Mrs. Ogundeji sons, who happens to be her boyfriend.

Meanwhile, Al-Hassan has further disclosed that the culprits are currently being investigated. He said that they would be transferred to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) headquarters in Lagos as soon as investigation is concluded.
