Former Vice President, Atiku says he can never go back to PDP
« on: February 06, 2014, 09:35:54 AM »
Former vice president Atiku Abubakar  has said that no pressure will make him return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying  the party is  beyond redemption.

The former vice president, who made the remark while fielding questions from newsmen shortly after registering with the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) at Kolere Unit of Jada 1, ward in Jada Local government area yesterday, said he was emphatic that Nigerians will now have a better deal with the coming of APC.

“New dawn has heralded the nation’s politics,” he said, adding that the PDP had since forgotten the people that voted it to power as it had since relegated them to the background in the scheme of things.

According to him, no democrat worth his salt will remain in PDP as it had since become anti-people.

Atiku said he defected to the APC after making consultations with Nigerians who had  expressed dissatisfaction with the PDP government.

Atiku carpeted the PDP, which according to him, had derailed from the ideals of its founding fathers, adding that he had been unjustifiably excluded and denied his rights and privileges as a former vice president.

‘’PDP has drifted from the ideals of the founding fathers, which I am one. I will not return to it, they are just   confused and rattled by my sudden defection, so they can say anything about my defection, let’s forget about them,’’ Atiku has said.

Atiku described PDP as irredeemable, “We have, therefore, concluded that that party (PDP) cannot be redeemed. In short the PDP has abandoned Nigerians, the very people who gave it life and many electoral victories.

“It has since lost touch with Nigerians and efforts made by many well-meaning members and stakeholders to bring it back to the vision of its founders have been rebuffed.

The party’s membership registration has suffered some setbacks as registration could not commence in many local Governments of the state due what stakeholders said was non arrival of materials.

An APC party stalwart in Yola Alhaji Usman Marafa told this correspondent that they have not yet received materials for the exercise as such they could not start the registration as at 1:10 PM Tuesday.
