Eid-Fitr: Jigawa governor grants pardon to 10 inmates

Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar A. Namadi, has granted clemency to 10 inmates serving various sentences in correctional centers across the state.The pardons is also aimed at enabling the beneficiaries to reunite with their families during Ramadan and Eid-el-Fitr.This was announced in a statement by the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Bello Abdulkadir Fanini issued to newsmen.According to the statement, the pardon was approved based on recommendations from the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, in line with Section 212 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.The beneficiaries include four inmates who demonstrated good character and were placed on probation to complete the few remaining months of their long-term sentences, one inmate released on probation due to ill health and five fully reformed inmates with less than a year left on their sentences, granted unconditional pardon.The Advisory Council commended Governor Namadi for his commitment to justice, fairness, and rehabilitation, highlighting his decision to approve a monthly budget for the council’s operations to enhance its effectiveness.The pardons, documented in the Prerogative of Mercy (State Pardon) Order No. 1 of 2025, have been communicated to the State Comptroller of the Nigerian Correctional Service for immediate implementation.
