ASUP Seeks Etsu Nupe’s Intervention over the On-going Strike

Federal Polytechnic Bida chapter of  Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has sought Etsu Nupe,  Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar’s help in ending their nationwide strike.

The union made the appeal when they paid courtesy visit to the monarch in his palace. Members of the union led by the national secretary, Nda Umar, was received by  the Sheshi Katcha, Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu at the Wadata Palace, Bida .

The Estu Nupe promised to table their demands to the appropriate authorities. While commending members of the union for being peaceful he said the closure of the polytechnics for a long time has adverse effects on the students.

He stated that the closure of the school could also have negative effect on the security of the nation hence the students were left idle at home for a long time instead of being  busy in the schools.

The  national Secretary of ASUP, Nda Umar said several students from across the country are forced to be out school for about a year following the industrial action saying that they were in the palace the Traditional Ruler’s royal intervention.

He stated that the demands of the union were neither for selfish purposes nor against  President Goodluck Jonathan but a move to ensure that polytechnic education was brought to acceptable global standards in Nigeria.

Nda Umar decried the discriminations against polytechnic graduates and funding of polytechnics comparatively to the Universities adding that Polytechnics were under the control of by National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) wheras Universities and colleges of education were under Commission.
