6 Die at Wedding after Consuming locally made Drugs

About six men whose ages range between 20 and 22 have been reported dead after consuming a locally grown hard drug, Zakami, at a wedding reception at Unguwa Uku, Kumbotso local government area of Kano State.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the lifeless bodies of the six young men who collapsed after taking the substance were taken to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital where they were confirmed dead emanated.

A source who also attended the wedding party said the deceased drank the substance at the well-attended party and collapsed afterwards.

Public relations officer of the state police command, ASP Magaji Majiya, who confirmed the incident said the police had since commenced investigation into the matter with a view to finding out the cause of the tragedy.

“On receiving the report, we invited the groom; he is currently assisting us in our investigation. I cannot confirm the number of deaths until we finish our investigation,’’ he added.
