Amaechi Wins ADC Presidential Primary in Bayelsa

A former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has emerged winner of the African Democratic Congress presidential primary in Bayelsa State, defeating former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.The result was contained in a statement shared on Tuesday by the African Democratic Congress shared via X, which stated that Amaechi secured a total of 44,404 votes to clinch the Bayelsa State presidential primary.“Results of the exercise showed that Amaechi secured a total of 44,404 votes to clinch victory in the state’s presidential primary,” the statement said.Atiku came second in the contest with “6,570 votes, while Hayatu-Deen polled 939 votes”, according to the announced figures.The Bayelsa result is part of the ongoing ADC presidential primaries, where delegates across states are voting to determine the party’s candidate for the 2027 general election.Although the party is yet to release the final collated national results, early figures show Atiku maintaining an overall lead in several states as the exercise continues nationwide.
