Tinubu, APC Owe Nigerians Answers on N10bn Ebola Fund — Atiku Campaign Spokesman

The Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Council has challenged President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to explain the whereabouts of the ₦10 billion announced in June for Ebola emergency preparedness.Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication, said APC’s claim that the fund remained untouched despite a confirmed Ebola case in Abuja raised serious concerns about the government’s readiness. He accused the ruling party of deflecting with political insults instead of providing transparency.“Was the money released or was it not? If it was released, where is it held, who controls it, and why has it not been used for the preparedness President Tinubu announced in June?” Shaibu asked, demanding release of account records, expenditure reports, and Task Force documents. He also questioned the government’s response timeline, citing World Health Organisation data that the patient developed symptoms on October 7, sought treatment on October 11, and was confirmed positive on October 20. Shaibu urged authorities to publish details of surveillance alerts, testing, and contact tracing. On the 44 identified contacts, he stressed that their safety must be prioritised over political point-scoring. “They are not a trophy for an APC press release,” he said, adding that health workers deserve adequate protection and resources.Shaibu further warned against politicising public health guidance, insisting that any restrictions on campaigning or voting due to the outbreak must be medically justified. “President Tinubu and the APC owe the country answers, not ‘Bola-Ebola’ tales,” he declared.
